What is this Love that made Humans?
Join Professor Stephen Post to learn more about the inspirational drive of investor and philanthropist Sir John Templeton (1912-2008) and the Institute they created together to ‘study something more than human love.’
Prof Stephen Post established the Institute for Research on Unlimited Love with Sir John Templeton in 2001. ‘Sir John’ was known as the ‘Tennessee mystic’, and he believed that eventually science would point towards an Ultimate Reality of Pure Unlimited Love. A few weeks before Sir John died in 2008, his son Dr. Jack Templeton called Stephen with the message that his Dad would like a book written about his thought with the exact title ‘Is Ultimate Reality Unlimited Love’?
In this presentation, Stephen, who worked closely with Sir John for a decade, will clarify the remarkable depth of Templeton’s metaphysical insights and the aspirations he held for the dialogue between science and spirituality centred on the soul, mind and the universe. This will build on a talk Stephen gave at Columbia University in 2012, and that extends forward to his most recent book ‘God and Love on Route 80: The Hidden Mystery of Human Connectedness’ (2019).
Stephen, who wrote the Foreword to Sir John’s ‘The Essential Laws of Life’, will also discuss how the virtues that Sir John considered essential, such as humility and love, are most sustainable within a nonmaterialist metaphysic. He will share various heart-warming ‘Sir John’ stories that are sure to bring a smile, some conversation around synchronicity, and will expand on what Sir John meant when he faxed Stephen “Don’t study human love so much as the love that made humans. Anything else is arrogant.”
